Pompeii

Pompeii was a small town located on the western coast of Italy with a population of about 20,000. This town was located next to an active volcano.  Some time back, the volcano erupted and buried Pompeii along with around 2,000 people who did not flee.  The eruption lasted for a day resulting in a hidden and preserved city underneath all the volcanic ash. As we went through the remains from this time we discovered a lot of furniture and architectural styles similar to the Ancient Rome period. First of all, the homes were a little bit different because women had a room designated for their privacy.  Whether they were sewing or meeting with friends they finally had some privacy!  Also before, homes did not include many bedrooms, but in Pompeii the homes included more spaces/ rooms for privacy and a sleeping quarters.

Also a different feature in Pompeii homes, were they had little business attached to the front of the houses.
Some furniture styles from this time period included :

A modernized chair and dinner table may look similar to this:

In addition to the furniture we have adapted some interior designs other than furniture, the walls would have designated markings/spaces for paintings and other art.

Now today in homes we would see spaces similar to these:

Response to Rose's and Yo's blogs:
Rose did a great job of showing the different styles of walls exhibited from this time period and associated the correct styles with pictures.  She said their were four different styles from this time. However, Yo did an excellent job at describing the differences in the styles.  He gave great examples at what was added through each style in a numeric order.
